Second panel: the President gets the best line.

(The above is not a partisan political statement. First, I’m Canadian, so Americans shouldn’t listen to me as to how to vote. 😀 Second, it’s an astute line no matter who were to say it.)

If there’s one thing Obama is really really good at, it’s speeches.

I might be missing something, but I find it interesting that

Just so you know Alice, I’m totally listening to you as to how to vote. Really though, that was a great line.

    /facepalm/ Ahem.

I find it interesting that Obama is this confident in Aegis’s opinion about the Hand. Just how much briefing has he had about the story the time-travelers brought with them?

See, now I’m actually curious how this comic would’ve been had McCain won in 2008…

Both McCain and Obama are definitely bright, one could see it in the debates. I think that both would respond in kind.

Good question Obama. Link will have to get back to you on that.

Presumably Donna teleported them there so apparently she doesn’t have to physically contact people to do that which is a good thing since Link could turn this around and claim AEGIS is using convicted criminals to do their bidding.

Shanna is composed right now which is good, but with the man who seemingly murdered her husband in the same room I wonder if she can keep it together. If she kills Tiki Wiki she could trap Will in whatever pocket dimension he’s currently trapped.

I don’t think the President’s identity matters in this scenario. A government agency is utterly destroyed under mysterious circumstances and a new team of superpowered individuals immediately offers to take their place? That’s suspicious no matter how you look at it. No leader would accept that – or miss the clear threat of force.

Also, is that a play on Obama’s 2008 campaign slogan in Link’s “you CAN” in the first panel? :

I’m confident that the fact Shanna is now in the same room as Tiki Wiki is all part of the plan laid by Future Guth. There’s a Campbellian twist waiting for us in all of this.

So far, the scenario is running quite well, with acceptable sacrifaces given the extreme power of the Hand. Hyperman is dead, Mechtech is disembodied and there is a mole among the Hand. The ability to get Donna out of HQ means AEGIS able to respond to the global threats of the Hand, such as getting Alisin to Rumy and getting AEGIS agents to the White House. Will isn’t even really dead.

It could still go horribly wrong but so far, the agent they’ve actually lost, and who they lost in the previous timeline anyway, was Jared.

Panel 2: “Oi, mate, don’t you be startin’ sumthin’ wif me, I’m president Oh-baaama!”

Panel 3: Raep faec, Trollface and “I see what you did there” all in one.

    Panel 4: ! times three.

I like that rather than ask the obvious question “Why should I trust you at all?” a few pages back, he asks this less obvious but much more relevant question.

Have to say that Donna is really earning that Presidential Pardon in her near future. 😛

Although also have to note that this could be the Bad Day that Mark screwed up in the other timeline.

uhmmm…. does Obama implies that AEGIS can be stopped by gov if needed?

  25. Brad

    April 13, 2012 at 9:24 pm | #

@Drakkin: Well, AEGIS did sort of come into being because the gov’t couldn’t stop a group of college students, so you’ve got a point there! :)

Anyway, I think that the serious answer to your question is, “Yes.” They are a government agency, subject to at least some oversight. Their budgets can be cut, they could be disbanded. Plus, their rank-and-file looks to me like they were recruited from the military, the FBI, police, etc. These are vetted people with a background in serving their country. I don’t think they’d turn against it, and certainly not as one unit.

I think the question is analogous to, “Could the President stop the military from taking over the country?” Well, not directly, but the circumstances that would lead to that scenario are highly unlikely.
