Aside from Will, they’re various crossword constructors, well-known in the crossworld word. I assume Lynx is a fictional constructor. Tyler was also the previous champion solver.
We’re due some of the female constructors, like Michaels or Gorski.

This may be the absolute nerdiest this strip has ever been. Love it.

Bishop, huh? I heard he died while out and about at Knight. It’s too bad, he was a King among men. Even if he sometimes acted like a drama Queen. I guess in the end we’re all pawns of fate…
    Something about Rooks.

Also, annoyed is a good look for Hilda.

I never realized that crosswords was represented by its own fanish fandom, somewhat isolated and disconnected from other fandoms, until this chapter. Thanks for the education, T.

It’s a… hmmm… ‘feature’ of the human psyche, that it is capable of fixating on ANY aspect of life and obsessing over it.

😀 comics are a funny way of learning about other cultures. You see, the crosswords in my country are what you would call “Swedish style”, and its a mistery to me why that particular style was choosen. The (number) down, (number) across clues you got in a list by the side, are scribbled in place of the blank squares of your american crossword. And the answers go upside, downside, from left to right and viceversa.
thanks to this storyline i have finally got the clue of a weird joke in a Red Tornado adventure i have read years ago. It was also something about crosswords and criptic clues. I have some research ahead…
